The Best Laid Plans....

Ever wondered about the origins of that quote?  Several of the members of this household have read the book Of Mice and Men in recent years and we have heard, "The best laid plans/schemes of mice and men...."  Most people don't finish that line but upon doing a bit of digging I have discovered that it is a Robert Burns poem that brought it to us.

The full quote is, "The best laid schemes of mice and men go oft (or awry)"  Here is the original poem from Burns

Well, today that could be said of my plans.  I had a plan to sit in my Adirondack chair and throughout the day I tried to go out but each time the wind was so strong I could not.

Winds were gusting up to about 70 mph today and I can still hear them outside even since it has gotten dark.  It is an allergy windblown mess out there.

    Burns is a Scottish poet :)
    I had a recording of "My Heart's in the Highlands" with one of the literature texts I taught from about ten years ago, and my students loved hearing the rolling r's of the Scottish burr.
