Solveig Leithaug and her new album Time

Have you met Solveig Leithaug before?

She is a charming musician with sweet thoughtful music.  She has been around the music industry for many years.  She has worshiped with some of the most amazing singers/songwriters of our time in Christian music.  I love that she has some familiar names collaborating with her on this album with  Reba Rambo-McGuire, Cindy Morgan, Sarah Hart, Anthony Skinner, and Kelly Willard.  It is a lovely album to encourage our souls.

Get to know her a little here in an interview done through the youtube channel of Karen Power.

Solveig's music has a laid back country feel.  It is thoughtful and personal.  She writes from her experiences and deep love of Jesus.  I know many of you will love her sound.  One of her songs from her recent album is called Simple Things.  I encourage you to slow down and take a few minutes to enjoy it here.  When you are done scroll down to the end of this post for a little giveaway magic!

This is a very fast and thorough video guide to prepare for the coming Dewey's Read-a-Thon.  You might enjoy checking out some more of her videos when you have time... she is very "newsy" and cute.  LOL  There is a plethora of Booktubers over on Youtube for your enjoyment, too.

Shrove Tuesday and the French Crepe

We typically do pancakes every Sunday.  That is Dan's morning to do breakfast for the kids. He loads us up with pancakes before heading out the door to church each week.  This is one reason we choose not to do the standard pancake for Shrove Tuesday.  We make crepes with fruit and whipped cream and a breakfast meat on the side.  I use a recipe I picked up in culinary school but it is very similar to the one shared in this video and this video is a great one.  Joy of Baking is one of my favorite sites and if you have not visited there before I thought you might enjoy their videos and recipes.

Take a look and have a great Shrove Tuesday!

*note - Shrove Tuesday, Mardi Gras, Fat Tuesday and Pancake Day are all precursors to Lent.... any reason for pancakes seems to be a good one.  LOL  Want more info on the holiday?  Check out this link.

New Tune... at least to me

I am really not one to love the new pop music very much.  I am kinda stuck in the 70's and 80's for the most part.  I am also very eclectic in my tastes, adding jazz, big band, classical, certain forms of country music, rock, pop etc... to my lists on Pandora.  I usually like people that don't land on the top 40's list very often if at all.   With that being said there is occasionally the odd song or lyric that strikes my fancy that is modern and popular just because of it's message or unusual melody/musical interpretation.  This particular song has a message that I love and that I think people... especially young women... need to know it.  It is about being who you are and not trying to be someone you were not created to be.  It is catchy and hip and has that great message...

Enjoy Estelle and Do My Thing on this Friday.

Have a great weekend!

New To Me...

I met Nigel Slater today.... not in real life.  LOL

I met him by way of the movie Toast.

It is a very interesting movie based on the Memoir of Nigel Slater by the same name.  I found it on Netflix Watch Now.  The most fascinating part for me was the progression toward becoming a professional caterer and what drove him toward that life.  I had just had someone ask me if I had seen it and so I looked it up and there it was.... just waiting to be discovered.  It won't win any Academy Awards but it has it's moments.  My favorite part is when he becomes enrolled in a Home Economics class and the determination he showed in learning to bake a Lemon Meringue Pie.  He was certainly driven...

Nigel is a food writer in the UK for The Observer and he has written a plethora of books on food, gardening and cooking.  He also has had several video series over the years on food.

Slater has his own website which is simply his name so it is easy to remember...  www.nigelslater.com.

He is a home cook (not a chef - as he shares right up front), a writer and a gardener....
I cannot wait to discover more.

Here is a little bit about him in video form.

I think I will be looking for some of his books and videos on YouTube to investigate more!

Baking 101 - 1949 style...

My friend Amy shared this on her blog and I just could not resist sharing it with you all. This is basically our first week in baking class and cooking fundamentals in culinary school. For the record... I have NEVER cooked cauliflower that way and I have been cooking for 20+ year! LOL

Enjoy!!!
